Global equity markets rallied on Tuesday as investors engaged in bargain hunting and shrugged off a downturn in oil prices after hopes for an agreement among top producers to freeze output faded.
After an extended holiday weekend, Wall Street financials (.SPSY), up 1.8 percent, and consumer discretionary stocks (.SPLRCD), up 2.5 percent, were among the best performing sectors on the session after showing some of the largest declines for the year.

Element Financial Corp. plans to split into 2 listed firms

Toronto-listed company Element Financial Corp. plans to split into two units – one devoted to its fleet-management business, the second to its financing business. The mechanics of a potential split have yet to be determined but it will take place before the end of 2016, the company said in a release on Tuesday. After completion of a review begun last October, company executives said they believe shareholders would have higher valuation from two stand-alone companies.
